Welcome!

This blog is based on what appears to be a very successful site for sociologists (http://socrumormill2007.blogspot.com/). It is intended to give psychology job seekers, and any other interested people, a place to discuss topics related to the academic job market.

The basic rules are (shamelessly stolen from sociology):
Please do not list individual's names
Please maintain a supportive, helpful environment
Feel free to share positive and negative job search/interviewing experiences

There are a few basic topics for discussion listed below. Please feel free to suggest additional topics. You can contribute to the conversation by adding "comments" on each topic. Note that all comments can (and probably should) be made anonymous.

Good luck to everyone!

Colleagues! I am not a psychologist, nor can I play one on TV. I am a classicist. Our wiki has been sabotaged as well, and I gather that such sabotage forced you all to move from your old digs. In any case, should we classicists also abandon the previous wiki area? Did you have any luck with restoring the pages after deletions, or was the menace fairly constant? If so, how did you even go about restoring the pages (the saboteur has even deleted the wiki manual so we can't figure it out)? We also have a blog like this set up, also modeled on the Sociology blog: FamaeVolent.Blogspot.Com so if you have any thoughts or suggestions on wiki crimes and how to fight them, please let us know. We will be very grateful!

We have a new wiki:

http://psychjobs.wikidot.com/

This site allows criminal IPs to be blocked and, if necessary, can require registration for editing rights. Wikidot might best serve your needs as well. Then on the main wikihost page (where all the disciplines are listed) add a link to your new page.

I second the positive opinion of the new wikidot site. Besides avoiding problems with saboteurs, I think it is simply easier to read and it has some nice features at the bottom, like allowing you to directly compare revisions. (Handy if you are away for a few days and want to easily spot the new information.)

By the way, our classicist friend, what does "famae volent" mean?

Thank you very much to whoever set up the new wiki! It was frustrating to see the old one continually deleted for no apparent reason.

I'm just wondering how everyone sees this year's job listings in comparison to other years. I think there seem to be a good number of developmental positions, but not many ed psych positions (my fields).

I'm also curious about the qualifications of those who are getting interviews. I have great people recommending me but only two publications--and no interviews.

I'd love to hear about others' qualifications and experiences on the job market.

Bump! It's 2008! Let's get the job search discussion rolling for this 2008-2009 year!

Anonymous 10/22/08 11:50: I agree! Is there anyway someone could create a new entry/thread on this site for the 2008 job seekers? Or will we only be able to comment on preexisting posts?

Won't we need to find "jobseeker"? S/he would be the one with privileges to modify the blog. But, I didn't see any contact information (email, etc.) to get his/her attention.

I've set up a new version of this blog for the 2008-09 season.
